Cyclist, snowboarder, photographer, DoP and director, Mark’s been shooting professionally from the age of 23, when he won his first Nike campaign and since then he’s been constantly evolving into both a highly acclaimed stills photographer and one of the most sought-after commercials directors in his home country of Canada.
Mark has collaborated with Toronto’s SickKids Foundation, directing and co-writing all their films since they launched their fundraising efforts. Each of these incredibly moving and beautifully crafted calls to arms has a powerful visual concept – and are part of the biggest fundraising effort in Canadian Healthcare history. The campaign resulted in the charity achieving their goal of the building of a brand-new state-of-the art children’s hospital.
Whether he’s making extraordinarily powerful films for NPO’s like the Royal Ontario Museum, Food Banks Canada, MAID or SickKids – shooting visceral action sequences for Walmart, Nike and Kruger or beautiful narrative storytelling for Ikea; Mark goes the extra mile, lighting all his own work and operating the camera – often from a moving hoverboard, to shoot fast and keep it spontaneous. With an incredible work ethic, he’s uniquely focused on exactly what he needs to get the best out of actors and non-actors alike whilst still making each frame look as beautiful as a still photograph.
Mark’s won multiple awards for his ads in Canada and at Cannes – and being obsessed with sports and competition himself, has made him the obvious choice to shoot many of the world’s top athletes. His Adidas campaign for the Beijing Olympics won China its first Cannes Gold and was named Photography Campaign of the Year at the prestigious Lucie Awards NY.
Mark’s client list includes Nike, Adidas, The International Paralympic Committee, Sapporo Beer, Nissan, Stella Artois, Pepsi, Ikea and Walmart.
